Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word: That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us. - John 17:20-21
God's eternal command is the same today as in all past dispensations: "Be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine." The perfect example of unity is the eternal Godhead. Though three separate, distinct beings, they are one-one in characteristics, attributes and purpose. We also are to be one - one in desire to build and uphold the kingdom of God on the earth; one in love and service to each other where no division, envy or malice is present. Sameness is not oneness. Uniformity is not unity. We are individuals with a range of interests, personalities, and weaknesses. But when it comes to the everlasting things, we are to become one with the Lord, and one with each other - united in truth.
Family is central to God's plan. We have an amazing family, with some amazing individuals - an amazing "unit". Our family is not complete without any single one of us. Our love for each other is everlasting. May we each work to keep this "unit" intact for eternity.
